~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My apologies to anyone who’s offended by my attitude. If you don’t like the story, I won’t apologize for that; it’s your own problem. No one held you at gunpoint to read it.
Disclaimer: I do not personally know nor do I associate in any way (yet!) with Hanson, their grandmother, Mercury Records, blah, blah, blah. I don’t know them; they’ve never even heard of me, etc. I do not know for certain that the events I depicted here actually happened. It is not impossible, but that does not mean it happened. I cannot vouch for them in whether or not they felt the way I set them up to; this is fiction people, FIC—TION. As in, not real, conceived in the imagination, plausible but not true. That said, let’s get to the good stuff…
Where this story came from: I was listening to, duh, "With You In Your Dreams" on the ‘Live From Albertane’ CD one night back in spring of 1999 while procrastinating against an English paper. Anyone who knows the origin of the song (it’s written for and dedicated to their late grandmother, Jane Nelson Lawyer) knows that it means a lot to the Hansons. According to some accounts, which have been proven false, the boys (sorry, I meant ‘guys’, we all know they’re not ‘boys’) composed the song at their grandmother’s bedside in her final moments. When I saw them perform the song in concert during the Albertane Tour (and heard it on the CD recording), the depth of their emotion struck me deeply, especially Ike’s. I must’ve accidentally hit the one-track-repeat button on my CD player that night, because I ended up listening to the song about twenty times in a row. Around the eighth or ninth time, I started seeing the events that surrounded the forming of the song, through Ike’s eyes. When I decided to incorporate the lyrics into the story, I went back to ‘3-Car Garage’ for the original lyrics, since to use the lyrics they rewrote for ‘MON’ would be a mildly retarded thing to do.
Song credit for this piece is the original version of Hanson’s "With You In Your Dreams"
(if you couldn’t figure that out by this point, you’ve got some problems)
Thanks: {as much as I’d like to, I can’t take all the credit for this}
Much credit also goes to my friend Karen…thanks for everything you’ve done to help me get this piece where it’s at: the very idea of incorporating the lyrics into the story, the editing help (I owe you so majorly!), and the encouragement when I thought this thing was puke (he-he). Thank you so much for all you've done!
For anyone who hasn’t read Karen’s stories, you have no idea what you’re missing. Stop reading my meager attempt at talent and go read the genuine article!
