"Zac, are you nuts?" Isaac asked incredulously. "How can you still want even to speak to her after what's gone on between the two of you? This on-again-off-again thing is ridiculous. It's not worth the heartache you and she are both going through, man."
"This from you? Correct me if I'm wrong, Ike, but aren't you the one who's been moping over some girl for more than three years, when you haven't even heard a single word from her since you last saw her? Not to mention the fact that she snuck off when you weren't around and didn't even say goodbye? Don't you go lecturing me about heartache and when to give up on a girl."
Taylor stepped in before a fight ensued. "Zac, that was a low blow, and irrelevant on top of it. The issue here isn't Ike and Laurel. It's you and Clista. She dumped you, man. Why are you still going after her? She made it more than clear that she doesn't care anymore."
"Thank you for reminding me, dear Brother," Zac spat back sarcastically. "But you have no idea what it is I feel for Clista. Neither do you, Ike; Laurel was a once-and-done deal. Clista is still here, and still speaking to me. ...Well, she was, up to yesterday, anyway. Don't try to pull rank over what I do with my love life just because the two of you are older than I am."
Isaac tried to put a hand on his brother's shoulder, but it was immediately shrugged off. He persisted verbally. "Zac, we're just trying to look out for you. It's been proven throughout history that if it's over once, it's over for good. She ditched you. Even if you and Clista do get back together, what's to keep her from doing it again when she gets bored of the way things are? You can't just indefinitely back out of a recording contract so you can stay home to please some girl. If she can't handle the circumstances of your life, then that's just too bad for her."
"Ike's right. We just don't want to see her hurt you again. Once was enough. She obviously isn't right for you."
Zac whirled around then, sending daggers straight into Taylor's crystal-blue depths. "Oh, shut up Mister I'm-so-wonderful-all-I-have-to-do-is-smile-and-women-fall-all-over-themselves-to-be-near-me. You don't know Clista. You can't just write her off like some horrible brat. She has every right to be angry with me; I forgot her birthday, for crying out loud. You have no right to judge her actions. You're not exactly a prince, yourself."
